Along time in the making but it seems the newest aircraft model manufacturer is the brain child of Wingnut productions owner Peter Jackson (LotR) fame. Opening with a bang and the subject matter is 1/32 WWI plastic model aircraft kits. . .

I don't think there is any more question about diving into 1/32 scale in a big way. I can feel the waters washing over me ... ahhhh

Wingnuts indeed!

Oh My....... I just visited the website, saw the level of detail. My credit card screamed in terror.
Seriously though, incredible truly incredible and such a range of choices.

In with a bang Wingnuts.......And a DV in the wings, and a DVII, now which to cut my teeth on, and wonders if they have a UK stockist lined up.

Looks like the first deliveries in Wellington NZ have taken place last night. One modeler inparticular has images of sprues out of the box.

This has been a long time coming.. It's great to see a company finally look at WW1 1/32 aircraft... I just hope they increase the range even further...

My first order will be the Bristol F.2b, Junkers J.I and the LVG C.VI and I anxiously await the arrival of the RE.8.

My dreams have come true.

I sent a payment over the past weekend for the LVG. Has anyone gotten an email yet with the 8 number conformation code needed to check tracking? I don't know if I'll be able to resist that Junkers. I can't imagine what the price will be for the Gotha.

I had a great exchange of e-mails with Richard Alexander here is some of the info he shared with me.

". . .Our models are designed and researched by passionate professionals utilising original factory drawings whenever possible, historic and contemporary photos and information supplied by some of the worlds leading experts in their fields. We also work closely with The Vintage Aviator Ltd http://thevintageaviator.co.nz, which gives us access to full size airworthy examples of many of our subject aircraft. We have also had great support from various museums who have given us access to aircraft and engines within their collections. . ."

Their focus is to design models to be a pleasure. From what I have seen they have a drive to provide accurate, detailed, 1/32 scale WWI aviation models that are ". . .as enjoyable to build for both the experienced and novice modeller alike. . . " I was told that they are making kitls the way they have always wanted models to be made. They feel that average modelers are intimidated by WWI aircraft models and have designed tooling and instructions to assist them in every way possible. They also seem to be drived to get colours accurate when possible. I asked about the software and was enlightened even further.

". . .For their time these aircraft represented the cutting edge of technology or in terminology of the day 'the cat's whiskers' . It is not surprising that we use the latest in 3D Computer Aided Drafting /Computer Aided Machining software and tool making techniques available to us to ensure that modelers receive only the highest quality product. . ."

While this was not mentioned directly the success of the LotR movies has given them such great advance in software we may yet see products we haven't even dreamed of.

". . .We have 6 more releases to follow, and we are well underway with our first two years of scheduled production and tooling for many more kits during this period. You need to tell people that we are not a market-driven company, but rather a group of passionate individuals. This has taken us up from the "safe and popular" WWI subjects and allowed us to focus on two-seaters and bombers, as well as many yet-to-be-modeled fighters. If we see enough to cover costs, we will keep going!. . ."

Now ask yourself what have we wished in our dream of dreams that we wanted to see. Let your minds wander. I know what I would wish for. How about you?

A good question Stephen.......with a myriad of answers... Mine is in the pipeline, in the the 1/32 DVII, and an Albi DV to add to my collection, But there are so many others I would love to add. I have waited since Roden hit the market with the DRI for a good 1/32 DVII and my Albi fetish is well known anyway :-P

Top of the list of wanted would likely be a Sopwith Triplane, closely followed by a Roland Walfisch, A Rumpler, An FE2 the list could go on..... and on.

Now what can I do with all those 1/48th kits in my stash as the 1/32 (my prefered scale) list of available kits flourishes?

I'm going to have to buy one of these, even though i don't usually do 1/32.

Any one taken a guess as to who the actuall injection moulding has been contracted out to for these kits?
I'm guessing a certain big Russian toy company....anyone with a very recent Zvezda model kit (such as the excellent Pe 8 ), try getting some sprues out and compare the style to these model kits...everything right down to the style of labels on the sprues looks the same.

Anyone want more temptation or to see the quality of what they have ordered????

Sprueshots and details have been added to the Model pics sections on the kits on the Wingnuts website.

SE5a has 2 radical options and 2 sets of fuelages, one wrinkled and one smooth....and more

I cant wait.... sorry Terri :-P

Just to see a company specialise in 1/32 WW1 aircraft is enough to satisfy my dreams, but to make it even better they are not sticking to the run of the mill "safe"models. This is a leap forward in 1/32 WW1 aircraft modelling, should be a real wake up call to other manufacturers.
As far as my wish list goes, here are a few that I think would be very interesting subjects in 1/32 scale.
Airco (Dehavilland) D.H. 2
Voisin Type 3 (Voisin type LA) - gained the worlds first air to air victory
Taube (Dove) type 2 seater
Albatross BII
I know it 's a lot to wish for but hey, we all have dreams.....

Aeroscalites,

I just received my LVG and all I can say is ... WOW! If this kit goes together as pretty as it looks in the box then it will be total nirvana!
I ordered my kit last Saturday and received it here in New York, USA this Saturday. The kit box, instructions, decals, packaging and most importantly, the sprues are among the best in quality I have ever seen. I can't believe that anyone will be disappointed.

I must have them all!

You're gonna Love them, Dwayne

P.S. My wish list will be:
Sopwith Triplane
Halberstadt Cl II and C IV
Halberstadt D II
Breguet XIV A2 and B2
Salmson 2 A2
Handley Paige O/400

Also very tempted, very tempted indeed...but I just bought the Encore Albatros!!!!!. The total look has a good air of enthusiasm and professionalism about it... Who would have thought Jackson had a lifetime interest in WW1 aviation......Maybe a movie project in his future
Aside from that I want to see the first hero who tries to sneak the GOTHA past SWMBO...... Not to mention displaying it...Ship models are Long but at least they are skinny...

Jim,

just out of interest, how was the Encore DII, I bought one from Squadron, got stung for VAT and a surcharge by Fedex....I wont order stateside no more unless desperate...but thats by the by.

The kit ...its beautiful but the resin was pretty badly done in during transit, packed together loose in a single ziplock bag.....the only real problem as I could see. Was your's damaged?
