| Subject: M-10 Wolverine and M-36 Jackson Upgrade | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hi friends, one more upgrade series post. This time two old Tamiya kits: 1:35 M-10 and 1:35 M-36, Both assembled circa of ī92. This is a polemic kits, because they don't have a defined scale, some modellers say is 1:32 and other say donīt have a defined scale Because of this unusual characteristics, they kits are to be exposed alone, therefore will not be displayed in vignettes or dioramas. Will be featured on individual bases. . JACKSON M36 B2: The idea is to get this model assembled in 92 and making some small modifications and additions to make more "presentable". Today the look of it is more of a toy than a kit. We have already identified the main points that should undergo these changes / additions, but would like the participation of all that will accompany the post. The model chosen is this, that was in action at Korea War: . WOLVERINE M-10 This M-10 also suffer changes / additions. The model chosen is this, in action at Anzio: The post will be developed in agreement of my availability of time, maybe a little slower, but always forward. I plan to initially make a comparison between models and real, pointing to flaws found in the model and then making the fix them and over time, adjusting the model kit I want to represent. I hope you enjoy it... Cheers Fabio M. Moretti

Wolverine M-10 Analysis of the hull: The kit has some inconsistencies to be corrected, considering that it uses the same hull of the M-36 Jackson, many changes / corrections will be the same for both: 1.The tools are merged in the hull, so it should be removed with sandpaper. New tools will be glued in these places. 2. The fixing bolts of side shield panels and front side of the hull are not satisfactory, the relief is too low and not out as they should, they should be removed with sandpaper, and new bolts will be molded and glued in these place. 3. Some voids should be removed with sandpaper and Putty, all accessories glued in the hull and the tower will be removed and is permanently excluded or replaced elsewhere so correct. 4. At the front a kind of support should be installed Analysis of the turret, and gun mantelet: Here too exist some inconsistencies that will be corrected: 1. The counterweight should be removed, corrected and replaced 2. Some imperfections will be corrected. 3. The rings (for the hooks) on the side of the turret, should be removed and pasted with the slope in accordance with the real 4. A hole and a cap should be made on the right side of the gun mantlet. Underside: 1. Every holes will be closed Wheels, suspension and rear: 1. Only the pintle hook should be removed and glued in the right way, the rest is ok if compared to the references. The rest apparently is Ok.

Your project is admirable but why not get an Academy or AFV Club kit instead? Here are MAJOR things on the old Tamiya kits that you can't fix: 1) the tracks are completely inaccurate -- note the end connectors that don't join the treads 2) tools to be replaced -- will you find 1/35 replacements? 3) note the poor bolt strip at the top of the transmission cover. I think you'll find making accurate the Academy or AFV Club kits to be less burdensome. For me, I find that if I run into too many challenges, I lose motivation and abandon the project. These Tamiya kits were designed over thirty years ago

Quoted Text Your project is admirable but why not get an Academy or AFV Club kit instead? Hi Roy, I agree with you but I like to live dangerously The questions # 2 and 3, I think that I fix it, but I don't understand the question #1. What did you mean? Cheers Fabio

Hi Fabio, "1) the tracks are completely inaccurate -- note the end connectors that don't join the treads" The track end connectors are centered at the end of each link instead of being between 2 links. The tracks are held together with majic .

I Removed the tracks and identified some parts that should be closed with plasticard. In the case of the exhausts, thatīs OK, but the hull may become a serious problem because of small space to handle the plasticard in this area. What I thought would be the easiest (removal of accessories) has proved an inconvenience, when I tried to remove them from plastic pieces of kit were torn, becausing the turret armor plates would be like a swiss cheese. The removal of the counterweight was also difficult and demanded his price Only the hull wasnt much affected Well I had to remove the sides of the turret and I scratch them with plasticard ... Fortunately the internal mobile parts of the cannon were not affected, well upgrade is this and It will get worse.

Here the mold for the side armor plates to be cut from a piece of plasticard (ordinary old credit card) The side armor plates glued with Araldite (bi-component glue) Them I made the back armor plates and glued. Now, Iīll waiting to begin with much putty and sandpaper Dont forget, that until now I only fixing the [auto-censored] that I done when I removed the turret accessories, in theory this was a job that I dont had.

Well, continuation of M-10 upgrade, I made the side armor plates with a plasticard thinnest and glued on the side. I applied putty on the turret, cannon and hull Now Im sanding and preparing the bottom of the hull which should be properly closed with plasticard. This part is very difficult because I dont have access inside the kit, my next challenge. Cheers Fabio M. Moretti

Continuing the upgrade, I sanded the side and frontal armor plates for remove the fixing bolts. I opened vains in counterweights and and prepared the lower side of them. I made the box of Thompsonīs magazines. I glued the eight bolts of turret armor plates. The next step will be pasting the box of Thopmpsonīs magazines in his place, making the tip of the bolts for fixing the turret armor plates and gluing the counter-weights. Cheers Fabio M. Moretti

Fantastic recovery skills Fabio! I missed the original postings. You have some decent scratchbuilding skills mate. One thing you did miss however is the need for the 3 bolts placed along the underside of each bogey housing. A common Tamiya fault! It looks great after the camouflage. Brad

Hi friends, some pictures and some troubles that I had to solve... did a reassessment of the project and discovered some flaws 1st. How to apply the decals? Should have thought of that before but...now I fix it First option, apply under the accessories, like this example But I thought it would be cool that way, then I decided to remove the accessories that are disturbing and leave the space for the decals. It all started when I found this profile ... That is exactly the same vehicle that I'm trying to represent, but viewer of the other side. Comparing both I noticed that one of the profiles is different from the other, mainly fixing accessories racks. The racks I decided to leave the way it is, but I had to remove some accessories... 2nd. Nuts and bolts. 3rd I forgot to put this in the vehicle

Well the bomber running... Apply decals (FCM) with Microset e Microsol. ![]() On the back after I have done I made some modifications, I took two supporters that had the original model and added bolts, this caused more sanding and repainting this part of the M-10 Before... After.... The interior almost ready. And the tracks, already to 2nd part of the painting job. I hope you enjoy it, next the final.... Thank you and cheers... Fabio M. Moretti
