Hi Steffen

Very tasty!

Having passed my self-imposed "line in the sand" of 300 reviews, I'm being uncharacteristically strict with myself and trying desperately NOT to buy so many new kits - but this is very tempting!

It's great to see Tamiya including canopy masks as standard again. Still a decal seat harness, but they're learning...

All the best

Rowan

Wow! Too bad there's no drooling emoticon . That looks spectacular! It'll be interesting to see who ends up with the nicer zero line, Tamiya with this new tool or Hasegawa's A6M8.

Very nice! Thanks for showing it off.

The figures and accessories look excellent. I see they have a separate set of etched parts - so they really are learning!

Hi Rowan

I find the extra set very "überflüssig" .. to put it mildly (esp. considering euro prices). I rather buy an eduard zoom. But anyone can give his money to Tamiya as he wishes (or she respectively).

just my 2ct

cheers

Steffen.

Hi Steffen

Yep - you can bet Eduard will include a pre-painted instrument panel and other details along with the harness in their inevitable aftermarket sets for this kit.

But my point was really that it's encouraging to see Tamiya offering etched parts (especially the harness) at all. You can almost feel the tide turning and the next stage surely ought to be to see them included as standard in their kits - that's one area where "upward pressure" from the short-run manufacturers is making us take such items for granted and, perhaps because of their background, Eduard have set what I believe will be the standard which all the majors are forced to match eventually - with masks and (at least basic) etched accessories included in the standard edition new kits. It'll be particularly interesting to how long it takes Hasegawa to start following the trend...

Your post has prompted me to place a new order with HLJ - I know, my resistance to nice new kits is SO low! LOL! I'll be away for a couple of weeks after this weekend so, hopefully, there'll be something exciting to look forward to around the time I get back...

All the best

Rowan

Hello Rowan

Well, I do not think PE is a must. I know many people who are scared off by that stuff. It is also not new for Tamiya, remember the Swordfish .. not my cup of tea, but they had a PE set for that one already.

OTOH I find those masks very good .. I prefer the Eduard pre cut stuff but the Tamiya stuff is a good addition to the kits

Have a nice vacation!!

cheers

Steffen

Hi Steffen

The Swordfish is a prime example of where Tamiya got it totally wrong - in the UK at least, the original kit was vastly overpriced and the accompanying etched set just "added insult to injury". Hopefully, the new releases show that they're beginning to understand the changing market better.

I think we're really saying the same thing from different aspects.

All the best

Hi again

Unfortunately, it won't be totally a vacation - I'll be "working on work" so-to-speak. I've my first docco as director coming up in the autumn, so I'll be conducting interviews and checking locations - but any chance to get away from London is fine by me!

Hi Rowan

well, somehow Tamiya is way overpriced in Europe. I got this for 3800 yen including S&H which is about 24 Euro .. this kit costs almost twice as much here. So I think it is more a problem of the distributors than the manufacturer. See e.g. Stevens Intl. who make the world prices for Trumpeter et al. (remember when these kits were dirt cheap? ...)

As for your job: good luck !! ..... hope it is not "Hitlers Helpers pt.278"

Hi all!

Steffen, maybe we could keep this thread alive in that we keep posting pictures of the kit we've just received...

Here's my latest one: Fliegerhorst's new 1/32 scale Alpha Jet kit... in German markings.

Feel free to post your latest purchases as well guys. From e-bay, local hobby shop, web shop, swap meet etc... old or new kit. Just show us what you've got lately.

Hi Jean-Luc

well it was not intended that way, but. O.k.. Just got the Hellcal Dual Combo, which Rowan already reviewed and a Gö 9 ... both samples..

As for the Alpha Jet ... I would prefer Togolaise markings .. very cool bird but not my scale.

viele Grüße

Hi Stephen!

Strange kit... I'm sure it can be built in one day though!

As for a Togolaise Alpha Jet, I don't like to do my models in exotic markings... expect for the Siebel 204 of course!

Hi Howard

this is not really a glider, but a test bed for the tail propeller (Do 335). Simplified it is a scale model of the Do17 ... so it is a model of a model See wikipedia for more info Göppingen Gö9

Lumir will issue a Si 202 soon ... which is much more interesting to me.

@J-L ... I do not think it is a weekend build, and a pic to think about

I'll check with Dragon but, other than the logo on the boxtop, there's no indication that it's a limited edition.

Hi Rowan

I am looking forward to the review .. would have preferred a Walter Loos special .. but o.k.

Here is my last (self ordered) model for quite a while ... hope I find a job soon to fund more models in da future. had to get it from customs today .. very annoying (not to pay the toll but to cope with German public "servants").

Hi Steffen

A real beauty!

I bought a set of those etched razor saws a little while ago. If you're like me, you'll find them fantastic! Far finer than any of my existing "standard" razor saws and perfect for really delicate tasks. They've gone straight onto my shortlist of most useful tools.

All the best
