Photo Etched Detail Set For The Eduard Kit

by: Tim Hatton [ LITESPEED ]

With the much anticipated release of Eduards 1/72 Bf 110 Eduard is not surprisingly creating a whole raft of aftermarket products. This release is photo etched [PE] parts detailing areas not covered by the PE parts in the kit.

Contents:

The single small non coloured photo etched fret and the A5 double sided instruction sheet are contained in a semi re sealble plastic bag. Areas covered by the detailing set include:
-The cockpit.
-Main wheel bay.
-The radiators on the engine nacelles.
-The under wing radiators.
-The undercarriage legs.
-The elevator, trim tabs and rudder actuating arms.
-The 50kg and 250kg bombs.

In the cockpit there are detailing parts for equipment, trim wheel, document/map box grab handles, levers and an electrical box [?] for the inside of the rear canopy. Some of the parts are very small and will require folding to complete the items.
There are eight partial ribs and one complete rib to add to each of the main wheel bays. Eduard has thoughtfully marked the plastic with lines indicating the locating points for the ribs. There are radiator faces fore and aft for the radiators under the wing and the forward air intake on the engine nacelles. These are nicely detailed and are an improvement on the kit plastic parts. There are PE rear flaps for the under wing radiators.
There is PE hydraulic hose for the main undercarriage legs and a torque link for the tail wheel. The PE actuating rods for the rudders, ailerons and the trim tabs on the ailerons are useful additions. The bombs have PE fins to add and Eduard has included placement guides to make life easier.
Obviously some of the kits plastic details need to be removed such as the map case, trim wheel, bomb fins, etc. need to be removed. It will be well worth it to improve the overall look of the finished kit.
The instructions are illustrated with black line drawings and generally pretty descriptive of what goes where. The only vague illustration is the placement of a piece of kit by the spare ammunition drums for the two MG FF guns.

Conclusions:

If you fancy super detailing your Eduard Bf 110 further then this will be worth acquiring particularly for the ribs for the wheel bays and the radiator faces for the under wing radiators. There is some intricate folding required of some of the cockpit detailing parts but nothing a seasoned PE user should be put off by.
SUMMARY
Highs: Some great detail on the parts.
Lows: Disappointing some of the parts are not included in the kits PE fret.
Verdict: Recommended to create that bit more detail for a very good kit.
