Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-5s

by: Rowan Baylis [ MERLIN ]

Each set consists of a sheet of individual markings and a sheet packed with national markings and comprehensive stencils. Items such as unit numbers and Swastikas are printed as separate black and white elements to ensure perfect alignment. The instructions are excellent, with precise notes and diagrams for the positions of the stencils. The stencilling instructions are so detailed, I'll keep the instructions as references long after the decals are used up.

Each aircraft is illustrated with a beautiful colour profile by Thomas Tullis, backed up by clear colour plan views showing the camouflage and wings markings. The schemes are described clearly and references are listed. Where there is any discrepancy over the markings, Eagle Editions outline the issue and include alternative markings. Some of the schemes utilise alternative kit items and the makers note these along with suggesting alternatives, where appropriate, from their Eagle Parts range of resin upgrades.

Sheet EC#83
This set consists of 3 sheets and features:
"Black 13" - Fw 190 A-5/U12 W. Nr. 410266 of 2./JG 11, Autumn 1943.
"White <<" - W. Nr. 5851 of III./JG 2, early 1943, France.
"White 1 or White 4" - W. Nr. 410055 of 1./JG 1, August 1943.
"White 4" - W. Nr. 1501 of I./JG 54, Eastern Front.

Option 3 - White "White 1 or White 4" - carries a spectacular checker board cowling, which is supplied as individual decals along with a very neat diagram showing how to position them. The sheet thoughtfully includes some spare black decal for patches and fill-in.

Conclusion
Overall, these are top quality decals. The design and instructions are excellent and the sheets offer some very interesting alternative schemes to the kit decals. Recommended.

SUMMARY
Eagle Editions have released two sets of decals for Hasegawa's recent 1/32 Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-5. These EagleCals sheets are custom-printed by Microscale, so it's no surprise that the quality it top-rate - the sample decals are thin, printed in perfect register and the carrier film is minimal.

About Rowan Baylis (Merlin)

I've been modelling for about 40 years, on and off. While I'm happy to build anything, my interests lie primarily in 1/48 scale aircraft. I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...
