by: Tim Hatton [ LITESPEED ]

The mission to super detail the Tarangus 1/48 Saab Lansen continues. Maestro Models have produced a pre coloured ladder and FOD photo etched set to go with the handsome looking Swedish Cold War Warrior.

Contents:

Inside the re sealable packaging is:
-1 x pre coloured photo etched fret.
-1 x A4 sheet of instructions.

Pre coloured FretI have to say the painted parts looks very eye catching with the yellow and black stripes. Something I have not seen on any photo etched parts before is painted areas on both sides of the fret. I don't know if the metal is slightly thicker than normal or if the paint adds some depth to the parts, but there is not quite the same two dimensional look to the parts. The wrap around appearance of the painted areas is very impressive in looks and quality.
The ladder is split into two main parts: the ladder itself and the platform on top. There are additional parts for the platform floor, support struts and wheels. There is a fair amount of folding and some cutting of parts involved. Some of the metal is very thin and will require some careful handling once cut away from the fret. But the overall result will look very colourful and impressive against the olive drab upper colour of the Lansen.
The FOD guard is equally colourful and requires a you to fold and slightly bend the part to conform to the shape of the air intake. There are a couple of pre coloured handles to attach to each guard.
Instructions will be very familiar if you have used Eduard photo etched parts before. I do like the multi view illustrations providing additional visual reference on how to attach some parts. There is a diagram illustrating how the ladder fits onto the aircraft.

Conclusions:

This ladder and FOD guard pre coloured photo etched release from Maestro Models will be a very colourful addition to the rather dull OD colour of the Lansen. A great idea and looks very impressive. All we need now is some Swedish airfield tarmac to display everything on. Nicely done Maestro Models.
SUMMARY
Highs: Quality parts and the wrap around paint looks very impressive.
Lows: Not one for the novice.
Verdict: Very impressive addition for your Saab Lansen. Along with the cockpit and exterior detailing releases from Maestro Models, the addition of the ladder will create a lot of interest.
