Brochure: Herpa Cars & Trucks 2012 /01-02
The new 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class sports tourer features a new four-cylinder petrol engine featuring direct injection and turbocharging, a new diesel engine, a new dual clutch transmission, a new manual transmission and new assistance systems and the front-wheel-drive. It features a wide grille, extending headlamps, a wide rear window, two-piece tail lights and a large tailgate. The new four-cylinder petrol engines mark the launch of a completely new engine series. The combustion process is based on the third-generation Mercedes-Benz direct injection system which was introduced with the BlueDIRECT V6 and V8 engines. The new four-cylinder engines have been designed for both transverse and longitudinal installation. The new four-cylinder diesel engine is a further development of the OM651 deployed in the C- to the S-Class, a common rail direct-injection engine. This is the first time that the compression-ignition engine has been mounted transversely in a Mercedes-Benz car. The new 6-speed manual transmission designed as a three-shaft transmission is extremely compact with seven gears. Mercedes-Benz describes this vehicle as a Compact Sports Tourer instead of hatchback or multi-purpose vehicle, like its R-Class model, which is called a Grand Sports Tourer.
The Box and Packaging
The Herpa Mercedes-Benz (MB) B-Klasse comes packed in a clear plastic form fitting carrier which sits in a paperboard insert which is inserted a light plastic box that opens on both ends.
Herpa’s Mercedes-Benz (MB) B-Klasse comes fully assembled and painted. I found no flaws in the molding or assembly. The exterior is smooth and shiny and features fine recessed lines for doors and hoods and panels. Its chassis has basic molded details, the tires have no tread detail, and the windshield, and all other glass is free of distortion and scratches. Individual clear lenses simulate the headlights and red tinted clear lenses are used for tail lights. The wheels have black plastic tires and chrome/silver rims. There is a single chromed exhaust pipe extending from under left side of the rear bumper. There are two side view mirrors and a rear view mirror. None of the mirrors have a silver color to them to simulate reflective glass. The interior looks nice and features bucket seats, steering wheel, console, stick shift, emergency brake handle and nice dashboard detailing. The windshield wipers are part of the black molding at the base of the windshield.
The model body is painted in a thin smooth glossy finish of silber metallic / silver metallic. The molding, the interior are molded in grey color and the underside is molded in black. The Mercedes-Benz logo is chromed upon the detailed chrome and black grille. There are no decals in place on this car as Herpa does not use decals. The other color choice available for this model is weiß / white.
This Mercedes-Benz (MB) B-Klasse is a nicely done model with fine plastic detail and great finishing. It has clear lenses for headlights and brake lights and detailed tires. The underside is modestly detailed. All the same this model should please modern model railroaders, railroad diorama builders, and scale car collectors. I would have no hesitation recommending this model to others. Thanks to HERPA Miniaturmodelle GmbH for the review sample. Be sure to mention that you heard about it here when ordering.
