Wingnut Wings' gorgeous new WNW Pfalz D.II is quite rightly getting WW1 modellers excited, and the timely cover of the latest issue of Windsock Worldwide promises a real treat in store for anyone planning to build the kit.

WW1 master modeller Ray Rimell certainly delivers as he presents a detailed step-by-step build of the kit. Some idea of just how impressive the new Pfalz is can be judged from Ray's admission that the aircraft itself has never been one of his favourites, yet finds the model his most enjoyable WNW build yet. (Note to self: seeing as I have really rather liked the Pfalz D.XII for years, I simply must get hold of this kit!)

Ray covers every stage of assembly, noting any minor pitfalls along the way and offering useful tips for improving on this already fantastic model. All this is backed up by 42 colour photographs of the kit under construction, plus a further 7 shots of preserved aircraft that offer useful references.

Lance Krieg continues his Modelling Master Class with a further look at the "dark art" of rigging. Both functional and non structural methods are discussed, and there's a description of the various extra items of hardware such as pulleys, fairleads and turnbuckles that all help bring a well rigged model to life. Along with the text are a series of captioned photo sequences illustrating different techniques - secondary plots, if you like, to the main story.

From The World's WW1 Workshops turns this time to the Rumpler C.IV (subject of the latest Windsock Datafile #149), with fascinating views of a sections of a rare surviving airframe under restoration, along with immaculate new reproduction components. The photos offer tantalising glimpses of original fabric fragments used to prepare accurate colour matches.

This issue of Windsock features an expanded reviews section, the highlight of which is a full build of Special Hobby's recent Fokker D.V. Ray Rimell goes to town on the kit, correcting the undercarriage and generally refining the model for a superb finished result.
