Soviet Officer and Civilian
Pre- WW Soviet (VVS) Officer and Civilian Woman
  • Rest_RM4850

by: Rowan Baylis [ MERLIN ]

The figures are sculpted by A. Gagarin and each is very cleanly cast as a single piece. The poses are casual and the figures are nicely detailed, each displaying a degree of character and, unlike some other figure sets I've seen containing “amazon” women, the relative heights of the figures looks more everyday.

The officer is dressed in a greatcoat with sleeve chevrons and a pilot's badge, and wears a "budionovka" cap, introduced n 1919 and supposedly phased out in 1940 - although it was commonly seen throughout WW2.

The female figure is also potentially very useful, because she is dressed in what can best be described as typical clothes for any industrialised western country of the period. So (and here knowledgeable fashion students might disagree...), although she is nominally "Soviet", you could equally well used her as any nationality.

The figures are well presented with a full colour sleeve that shows finished figures on the front and reference photos of the officer's uniform and insignia on the rear.

Conclusion
The pre-war officer and woman are ideal to accompany any early VVS aircraft and also have potential uses beyond. Recommended.

I've been modelling for about 40 years, on and off. While I'm happy to build anything, my interests lie primarily in 1/48 scale aircraft. I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...
