USMC DUKW Crew

introduction
Since Italeri issued their DUKW a few years ago, crew sets have been issued by several manufacturers. Some of them feature the 2 man crew sitting in the drivers compartment, each figure having the appropriate arm draped over the side. This set is sculpted by Bill Chilstrom.

the figures
As said, the set comprises two figures, the right one having his right arm draped over the side, the left one his left arm draped over that side. Both figures are in Warriors usual soft cream-coloured resin, and are supplied with separate heads and arms, with one of the figures, just the left hand is separate.

The figures are both wearing helmets with the camouflage covers, and plain tunics. No sidearms are provided. Both figures are nicely cast with just a minimum of flash present that was little trouble to clean up. although both figures did suffer from quite prominent seams that needed to be removed on the legs and torso's. The moulding blocks attached to all parts are fairly easy to remove, the ones attached to the heads being on the top of the helmets, which required some fine sanding and scribing of new detail in the camouflage cover. The moulding blocks attached to the feet were quite robust, and if not removed carefully, damage could result.

Once all the parts were cleaned up, the fit was really rather good. Although I've primed the figures, a quick rub with some fine sandpaper will be required, but afterwards it doesn't look like any filler will be required.

in conclusion
A very nice set, and if you need to have a crew actually driving the DUKW, then recommended. Having said that, I think they're slightly over-priced for a two-figure set.

My thanks to the VLS Corporation for the review sample.

A useful set of 2 crew for the DUKW, that may be a little over-priced.
