History
Storm Shadow is a British, French and Italian air-launched cruise missile, manufactured by MBDA. Storm Shadow is the British name for the weapon; in French service it is called SCALP EG (Système de Croisière Autonome à Longue Portée – Emploi Général, meaning General Purpose Long Range Standoff Cruise Missile). The missile is based on the earlier MBDA Apache anti-runway missile, and differs in that it carries a warhead, rather than submunitions.

The missile has a range of approximately 560 km (300 nm), is powered by a turbojet at Mach 0.8 and can be carried by the RAF Tornado GR4, Saab Gripen, Italian Tornado IDS, Dassault Mirage 2000, Eurofighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale aircraft.
Info from Wikipedia

1/72nd Storm Shadow
Packed in the standard sponge backed blister pack, the two Storm Shadow missiles are made up of 30 resin parts and 8 photo etch pieces. A small instruction booklet and a set of stencils complete the contents.

The quality of casting is excellent, with no imperfections found in the resin parts. The parts are attached to a casting block and look easy to remove. The main missile body has the largest block attached at the tail end, and once this is removed a cleaned up a P.E exhaust ring attaches to it.

The missiles can be either be built with employed or closed wings, along with an open or closed air intake. The wings are resin and in the closed position sit along the top of the missile body. This is the normal configuration for carriage. Two different types of mounting plates are supplied, a resin part for the Tornado and P.E part for the Mirage 2000, Rafale and Typhoon.

The PE fret holds, along with the mounting plate, two parts that need to be folded and are fitted at the folded wing hinge, and a small ring for the missile’s exhaust nozzle.

The instruction sheet is easy to follow with the open and closed wing options as separate build sequences. A small set of stencils are provided and look to be the usual high quality from Eduard.
A small paint guide is included in the instructions, all paint colours are for the Gunze and Mr Color paints.

Price (Hannants) - £5.60

1/48th Storm Shadow
The 1/48th scale Storm Shadow is packed in a Eduard Brassin box with the contents sandwiched between two sponges, and the small instruction booklet wrapped around them.
Two missiles are supplied in the box.

The 1/48th version is the same as the 1/72nd offering, only bigger (obviously lol).

Detail is on the same high standard. The smaller parts are attached to a casting block, and the main bodies are attached to a small block at the rocket end. Removing them should be pretty straightforward.

The P.E fret is the same as the 1/72nd kit, as are the instructions and small decal sheet.

About Andy Brazier (betheyn)

I started modelling in the 70's with my Dad building Airfix aircraft kits. The memory of my Dad and I building and painting a Avro Lancaster on the kitchen table will always be with me. I then found a friend who enjoyed building models, and between us I think we built the entire range of 1/72 Airfi...
