The first Workbench announcement for coming in 2019 has a new tooled Spitfire Mk.XIV on its way.
Airfix is already looking to 2019 with the announcement of Supermarine Spitfire FR Mk.XIV in 1/48 scale. The kit will be newly tooled and based on other new tooled kits from Airfix, should be a great kit.

Great news

I have some free guessing/advice to offer for modellers who would prefer a high-back XIV: wait a few months and I'm almost sure there will be one! When Airfix released their 1/72 Lancaster they released the radial engined Mk II (which is a fairly odd bird even if I like it!) with the Merlin-version following suit six months or so later. I suspect they they probably do the same thing (start with the odd bird) this time and there is no reason for NOT releasing the high-back version considering that there are no good Mk XIV:s at all in this scale on the market! Until then, build the bubble-top, I think it looks cool ! Magnus

Don’t normally say this but I want that Spit, for me the XIV is the best looking of them all.

Lucky, I like all Spitfires but the low back MkXIV is a particularly handsome beast And you just can't have too many Spitfires (And on a different note mate) Sorry for the lack of content on the Bulldog page! I still can't upload any photos to my gallery! )

Marvellous news!! I've been waiting for this since the PR.XIX appeared some years ago. Now at last we can give that "other" misshapen Mk.XIV the heave-ho....

Hi there It's just so sad that Edgar Brooks is no longer with us to see this release take shape. After some of the recent Airfix releases, my excitement at finally seeing a proper Mk.XIV is tempered by a worry over how they tackle the panel lines; while not quite falling into Matchbox "trench-lines" territory, some of their efforts have been very heavy-handed. (Build shots of the new 1:48 Blenheim look a bit ominous in that respect too...) The cowling fasteners also stick out like proverbial "sore thumbs" in the rendered images. All the best Rowan

Definitely a welcome new addition, but this was the first thing I saw as well. Reminiscent of an old boiler casing.
