In another recent thread, we were begging for interesting, niche releases. Now if this does not comply to that!!! Thank you mr. Airfix

Doubtful. Let's take a look at Airfix's 1/48 series for a minute. Outside of the staple WWII props, you'll note that they are all British cold war jets: - Gloster Meteor - EE Canberra - EE Lightning - DH Sea Vixen - Gloster Javelin So let's see what's left for them to do: - Hawker Hunter, which I suspect will be announced at Telford - Vampire/Venom, which I don't imagine will be that far off in the future, even though there's a Classic Airframes kit (hard to get) and a Trumpy version (which may or may not be as accurate as an Airfix kit. - Supermarine swift (not sure if this will be popular enough to be tooled in 1/48) - and lastly a Buccaneer-but it's doubtful Airfix will release a 1/48 Buccanner if Tan Model beat them to it and do a decent job of it

Hi Russell There seriously has to be a decent 1:48 Hunter series - and it's an aircraft that just begs to done by Airfix. The Trumpeter Vampire is hideously inaccurate - I can vouch for that having done battle with it! A Swift? I'd love it! But I don't know if there's a big enough market for one our greatest aviation turkeys... But what about a Scimitar if we're talking Supermarine? They've already done the Buccaneer in 1:48 - albeit nearly 20 years ago. Perhaps there'll be a re-release or update... All the best Rowan

Hi Rowan I think your wishes for a Hunter may be fulfilled, given this conversation from Airfix's facebook page when announcing the 1/48 Walrus... (Name removed): Bloody hell. But will there be anything left for Telford to announce ? Airfix: We might have a few surprises in store yet! and this (Name removed): very nice....... but still no Hunter!!!! (Airfix): We still have some more announcements to come. You never know. So if that isn't a give away, then I don't know what is As for the Scimitar, I think it might fall into the Swift category (too obscure). Maybe in 1/72? It'd be great to see a new tool 1/48 Buccaneer from Airfix (given the trouble with the old kit I doubt it'll ever be re-issued) but unless Tan Model botch it, it's unlikely to be re-tooled by Airfix, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong. I think a new tool Vampire/Venom much more likely from Airfix after the Hunter, in the next few years or so...

Airfix have entirely ruled out a re-release of the old 1/48 Buccaneer, citing insurmountable "quality" problems with the fuselage, and announced in that wonderful corporate-speak that they had "retired" the mould. It was during a "what kits would you like to see" thread in the Airfix website forum some time ago.

Very glad for you all over there have a model maker who delves into the past, My tastes in British is more 30ish, the Hart/Demon 2 seater; Siskin, Grebe, Osprey, and of course the Overstrand (one of the ugliest aircraft to ever take to the air, Or be repelled by the ground)

Okay, I gotta admit that this isn't a model I've ever thought of, yet a modern kit of the Walrus in 1/48? I definitely want one! Airfix, I am all in on your range of new 1/48.

While they ain't a wingy-thingy, might Airfix bless us 1/48 armor modelers with a 1/48 Centurion and a Churchill?

Is their 1/48 Sea Vixen kit still being produced or did they discontinue it?
