HobbyTerra have sent us details of a new 1:72 kit from Modelsvit - the Tupolev Tu-22KD "Shilo" (Blinder) medium bomber. Included in the report are shots of the parts.
The supersonic Tu-22 entered service in the 1960s and remained in front-line use until the end of the Cold War.

Kit #72022 - Tupolev Tu-22KD "Shilo" (Blinder) is due for release this month.

Bad news for anyone still hoarding the old AMT/Italeri kit...

I think the Russian designers have it all over the west when it comes to sleek looking machines. {except for the SR-71] I'm looking forward to this kit.

That would be me. I don't think I will be too sad to see the old ESCI kit go though. I had actually begun a bit of work on it before shelving it a few years ago. It's a terribly flawed kit, although for the time, and based on the sketchy info available in the west on the Tu-22, I suppose it was not bad. Several of it's many flaws were nearly impossible to fix without serious scratch-building. If the Modelsvit kit scales out at all well, I will happily bin the old ESCI one.
