The wait is almost over for Airfix's 1/72 scale kit of the TSR-2, Britain's potentially world-beating aircraft that was cancelled by the Labour government in the 1960s. After 40 years, the TSR.2 remains one of the most controversial aircraft projects in history, sounding the death-knell many famous names in the British aircraft industry.
Airfix have based their TSR.2 model on original manufacturer's data and extensive research carried out on the surviving airframes. This is the first time this historically significant aircraft has been released as a mainstream plastic kit. The model will be 37.6cm long with a wingspan of 15.6cm and will include decals for all three completed prototypes.

Intriguingly, although the final kit will be 1/72 scale, most of these photos from Airfix are of a 1/48 scale resin development model of the TSR.2 which the company have produced to ensure the detail is correct. Since sales of Airfix's TSR.2 are bound to be high, does this raise the tantalising possibility of a 1/48 scale kit at some point in the future?...
