Azur Dewoitine D. 520 C1

The parts are cleanly moulded and a quick dry-fit shows most parts line up OK. As with most kits of this type, the wing-roots will need some care to avoid fit problems. Panel lines are neatly scribed and the fabric control-surfaces are subtlely done. Surface texture is a little rough in places.

The instrument panel shows quite good detail, but an etched clear film version would be far superior in this scale.

There are a few resin parts but, surprisingly (in view of its Czech origins), no etched metal details. No seat-harness is provided, which is a major disappointment - 1/32 scale French WW2 harnesses aren't exactly commonplace (I think Eduard might have come to the rescue here...).

The injection-moulded canopy is nice and clear... but is moulded closed, so some careful work with a razor saw will be needed if you want to display an open "office".

Decals & Conclusion
Decals look fine. 2 choices are provided: a Battle of France machine and a Vichy aircraft.

This isn't a kit for beginners... but expect to see a few show-stoppers from the experts!
SUMMARY
Azur (an offshoot of MPM Models) has taken a bold step by moving into the 1/32 scale market. It's first release is the Dewoitine D.520 C.1. I should state at the outset that this is not a Tamigawa (or even Trumpeter) type kit! It's typical of the Czech-based MPM/Classic Airframes/Sword etc. family... this is model that is as good as the extra effort you put in... but this is reflected in the price!

I've been modelling for about 40 years, on and off. While I'm happy to build anything, my interests lie primarily in 1/48 scale aircraft. I mostly concentrate on WW2 subjects, although I'm also interested in WW1, Golden Age aviation and the early Jet Age - and have even been known to build the occas...
