How can you say that on the basis of one month? - Plus, I'm tempted to say "Twoddle" anyway... at least that's my take when I look at the no-nonsense Hasegawa releases that market for a fraction of the cost of Tamiya. Hasegawa's new-tool largescale kits of Japanese fighters over the last couple of years have been really excellent.

Rowan, far be it for me to question you as editor, but I respectfully submit this is not a one-month trend. I only build 32-scale aircraft, and have been watching this for at least a year. When was the last time Hase released a new-tool 32-scale kit?


I agree their kits are cheaper than those of Tamiya or even Trumpeter, but in terms of value for money, again, they're lagging. Look at Revell of Germany with multiple large scale kits released in the past year (I count 1 109, 2 Ju-88s, 2 HE-111s, the Arado floatplane, and very shortly a Spitfire Mk. II, and there are others I've overlooked).

It's surprising (to me at least) that the company who more or less invented the category has IMO abandoned it.

I lose track easily with all the releases passing through Aeroscale, but their Shiden Kai only came out last winter didn't it? I remember being mightily fed up that Fred beat me to the sample.

You may be right, Rowan. But I don't think that changes my point that they have retreated from leadership of this category. They used to be the standard and now the other companies are eating their lunch.

Rowan, do you know if the P38J & B26B/C are new molds, or just re-releases of their existing kits? I'd be interested in the B26B/C but not in their old P38J which I prefer as a 1/48 scale offering.
