Great, I'm behind already.

I'm gonna try to do this oldie:

Or maybe this even older one:

It says Testors on the box but Hawk on the plastic.

Hi there

This will be my entry:

I've included today's paper as a backdrop so I can really cringe when I still haven't finished it come July!

All the best

G'day all.
I’m going to have a go at my first Eduard kit with this Mirage IIIC. Will be OOB except for maybe the addition of an aftermarket seat that I have.

John,

If I may be so bold, a couple of hints on the Eduard Mirage:

Glue those intake interior parts together solidly. They don't have a lot of joining area but they're put under stress when the fuselage halves are put together.

The fuselage halves on one of mine had warped latterly, watch out. It can really throw things off.

When you put the wings together from the box there's a nice step on the leading edge underside. Sand back the inside of the bottom parts of the wings and you can eliminate this pretty easily, it'll go together much better.

Not knocking the kit, best Mirage out there by far! Just some things to look out for that I've run across. Your performance may vary.

Here are some shots of the unbuilt kit:

Yes, one of the fuel tank halves was shorted some styrene.

To be honest, I started this kit last month and posted some progress shots in another thread. Michael informed me about this campaign so I put the kit on hiatus. So to be fair I will hold off working on it for a week or two.

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's work.

That's nothing a little Miliput won't cure.

Thanks for the help Michael, especially the tip on the wing leading edge. I haven’t started the build yet but will probably do a bit this weekend.

Hi,

I plan to make the Kopro - Mig-21 MF or Fisbed J as its popularly known.

Plan to make it as an Indian Airforce Mig-21.

Hmmmm Jessica, hadn't thought of that. I've never used the stuff. My plan 'A' was to roll some sheet styrene to fit the inside curve of the fuel tank, glue it in place, and then putty up the outter crevasse. Plan 'B' was just to leave the tanks off.

Should we take a vote? "To tank or not to tank, that tis the question?"

What say you, fellow Hangar Queen builders?

That plan would work as well. Miliput (or any other two-part epoxy putty) is easy to scuplt with water and doesn't shrink, which is why I recommend it for cases such as this. Roll up a plug just slightly larger than the diameter of your tank, put it in the complete half, then glue on the two parts of the short-shot half. The putty will squeeze up out of the short-shot area and then you just smooth it off level with the surface of the tank, let it dry, and sand out any remaining irregularities. I think that a piece a little larger than a fingertip would be sufficient

At the risk of advertising, here's Milliput's homepage: Milliput

I've used it before, it's a two part epoxy that can be shaped with wet fingers while it sets up. Set up, it's hard as a rock.

Hi folks. I'm underway with my Academy 1/48 Mirage IIIC, which will end up carrying markings for an Aussie Mirage IIIE (because I couldn't find a IIIE kit at the right price, and because I can!). I was planning to push through this one as a simple OOB build, but you all know how that goes straight out the window as soon as knife touches styrene

I found that the wing underside inserts are cast quite a bit thinner than the recess in the upper wing parts, so I had to dive into the Evergreen stash and fit some packer strips to get rid of what would end up as a big step. In all likelihood nobody would ever see it, but I would never sleep at night knowing it was there

Cheers, D

Ken--that is one big looking kit! Are you sure they didn't package a 1/48th in the wrong box?

Damian--nice work on fixing the step problem. My Revell-Monogram has the same issues.

Jessica--that milliput sounds too good to be true. I'll have to get some and try it out.

Here is where I was last month:

I can hardly wait to get back to it.

It's big for a Mirage. Here's mine, from about 10 years or so ago.

It's huge compared to its stablemates

But put it beside a couple (WIP) Convairs and it suddenly shrinks

Watch out for the decals. Mine were horrible, and the setting solution just wrinkled them. If I could find an aftermarket sheet, I'd grab it in a heartbeat.

Justin, Keith, Yes it's a 72nd scale despite the aircraft looking quite big. As you can see when put with Jessica's pictures, it does look like 72nd. The Mirage IV is about the size of the SU-27.

Jessica, what did you use for the green? The instructions gave humbrol colours and when I search it up, they say use dark green..but dark green is used by the RAF which may not seems like the right colour.
