At the time of writing this, the annual Shizuoka Trade Fair is being held in Japan. Understandably, Tamiya is there showcasing their Spring 2010 Collection... All of the Avation releases have been listed previously, however, so far they haven''t been seen. Here''s a first glimpse of the three listed releases for Spring 2010:

Hi Jim

I don't know - the Ar 196 just looks like the Italeri kit with a couple of figures added.

All the best

It is, Rowan. As a matter of fact, you can see the Italeri logo on the box in the one pic. They'll probably want three times as much for it though

Hi Justen

Well, I thought the original was overpriced, and I see Tamiya's version is expected the cost an eye-watering ¥5,000. I really do wonder at the wisdom of Tamiya reboxing these Italeri aircraft kits that simply aren't up to their own standards.

All the best

Sorry about that! Unfortunately that's the same trap that it's easy to fall into with their armor releases as well. As i'm so accustomed to their re-boxing policy with armor kits, but not so with aircraft...

Odd, given all the interest in "the Battle of Britain" that Tamiya would move slowly BACKWARDS from the Mark IX to the VIII. I mean, I'm sure there will be tons of buyers, but imagine an Early War Spit in 1/32nd?

Concur. About 5 years ago I was thrilled breathless when I found a Tamiya 1/35 Puma German armored car; a little research showed it was the Italeri model with Tamiya fuel and jerry cans. Not that the Italeri Puma is bad, but I wanted a new Tamiya version.
