I have a friend at work who plays guitar. I asked him what he did with his old strings, and he said he threw them out. Not one to waste perfectly good scratch-building material, I asked if he would mind donating them to my hobby cause . He did, and he continues to do so. It turns out that the P-51 is his favorite plane, period. He even has a picture of one as his screen saver at work. Well, not to take generousity for granted, I decided to build him a P-51 to say "thanks" for the guitar strings. I have just finished it. It is built OOB, except for some guitar string, that I used to fashion the brake lines on the landing gear, and a set of Eduard generic seatbelts. The kit is Tamiya's 1/48 scale P-51B. It is my first "open cockpit" attempt. The figures are from ICM. My skills are nowhere near the level I see on this site regularly, but knowing it was a gift, I tried to do my best, and I am happy with the result. Here are a few pics:

I hope you like it, and, more importantly, that my friend likes it (fingers crossed).

Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike!

Your model looks great. I'm sure your friend will like it! If not, it's not a problem since you can keep the display for yourself then...

Thank you all very much for your kind replies. Whenever I build for someone else, I always get nervous. But, if the really great modelers that hang out here give it a thumbs up, then I know for sure its passed muster. Thank you all once again.

Cheers,
Mike
