Hi all. A question to all the gurus out there. What exactly is a filter, when is it best applied and how does one apply a filter to get the best results.

Not a bad article but has anyone had much experience using this technique, particularly with aircraft. In the article they apply the filters with a brush. Does anyone know if it is able to be applied with an airbrush.

Filters are generally applied with an airbrush. MIG/Sin Industries now sells a line of filters, in sets of three different shades for different color applications, for Axis vehicles, Allied vehicles, and one for DAK German vehicles (that can actually be used with any desert AFV color scheme. They are a bit pricey, but nice--Mission Models carries them. As far as use with aircraft, I would suspect that more subtle application would be key.
