South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum

The South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum is small as aircraft museums go, but it can easily keep you occupied for three to four hours. Of all the museums I have looked at, this museum offers something unique in my experience; visitors do no always have a barrier between them and the aircraft or display. Having taken a stroll around the museum and considering the limited number of barriers I did not observe anyone acting in a manner that may cause damage to the displays.

The number of full aircraft in restricted by the size of the location due to most of the RAF base having being turned into a commercial centre and so many of the exhibits are of the cockpit area only, but there are a fair number of complete offerings to look at as well. Rotary aircraft are particularly well represented and in many cases in what looks to be especially good condition.

Something that will appeal to members here is the museum shop, it has a model section which is far better than many of the model shops I have been to and the prices are not excessive. As with every location not everything is perfect, in this case the lack of hot food is in my belief the only real concern if attending with family members whose interests lay elsewhere. With that said you can get a hot drink and something quick to eat. I strongly recommend this museum to you if in the general area as entry is only £6.00 for an adult and family tickets will save you money on that.
